Reporting to the Manufacturing Quality Manager, the role requires strong technical expertise, analytical skills, and a commitment to excellence in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Quality Management System (QMS) & Compliance

  • Maintain and support the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure compliance with company 3rd party certificates, customer requirements, and internal procedures.
  • Review manufacturing processes, work instructions, inspection plans, and quality records to verify that quality requirements are clearly defined and followed in production.
  • Conduct and support internal audits, process audits, and readiness activities for customer or external audits.
  • Support material review board activity, disposition processes, and deviation or change implementation as required.

Inspection, Testing & First Article

  • Perform in-process inspections, receiving inspections, first article inspections, and final inspections with detailed reporting.
  • Lead or support First Article Inspection activities and related documentation in accordance with aerospace requirements such as AS9102 where applicable.
  • Verify that inspection and test methods, equipment, and records are adequate to confirm product conformity to drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.

Nonconformance Management & Root Cause

  • Investigate product and process nonconformances, determine root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Analyze quality data, defect trends, scrap, rework, and escape events to identify risks and drive measurable process improvement.

Process Improvement & Collaboration

  • Partner with fabrication, machining, assembly, engineering, supply chain, and production teams to ensure quality is built into the process rather than inspected at the end.
  • Promote continuous improvement using structured problem-solving and lean or Six Sigma methods where appropriate.
  • Develop and implement quality control procedures specific to fabrication processes (e.g., welding, machining, assembly).
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and participate in cross-functional teams to enhance fabrication processes.

Team Collaboration, Vendor Relations & Safety

  • Collaborate with fabrication teams, engineering, and suppliers to resolve quality issues promptly.
  • Provide training and support to production staff on quality standards and best practices.
  • Engage with vendors and customers on quality matters, including supplier development.
  • Promote and adhere to all safety protocols, maintaining a safe work environment in the fabrication area.
  • Manage tool calibration, equipment validation, and measurement system analysis.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support department and company goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or a related technical discipline; equivalent aerospace manufacturing experience may be considered in some organizations.
  • 3 or more years of experience in quality assurance, quality engineering, or manufacturing quality within aerospace, aviation, defense, or another regulated fabrication environment.
  • Working knowledge of company 3rd party certificates quality systems and familiarity with aerospace customer and regulatory expectations.
  • Experience with audits, NCRs, CAPA, root cause analysis, and QMS documentation control.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis tools (e.g., 5-Why, Fishbone), SPC, and problem-solving methodologies (Lean/Six Sigma preferred).
  • Excellent computer skills (including MS Office and quality software).
  • Ability to work independently, lift up to 30-50 lbs as needed, and thrive in a fast-paced team setting.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CQE, ASQ) preferred.
