The CAD Designer position uses CAD systems to support the Fabrication Department by creating solid models, detail drawings, and assembly drawings from provided original engineering drawings. A new designer may make routine decisions, but will refer most questions/problems to the department leader until the necessary amount of experience is acquired. It is critical to have a solid understanding of drafting techniques and familiarity with engineering terminology and 3D surfacing. Mechanical aptitude and the ability to complete basic mathematical calculations, in addition to some familiarity with CAD/CAM equipment and the relationship of CAD to CAM, is preferred.
