Digitizing Specialist

SUMMARY:

AirCorps Aviation is looking to fill a full-time position for a qualified and interested candidate to live and work on a long term digitizing project located in Creedmoor, North Carolina. The length of this project is approximately 1 year, and once finished the candidate would likely relocate to an AirCorps Aviation facility, or to another long-term digitizing project outside of North Carolina.

The Digitization Specialist is responsible for digitizing large batches of aircraft technical data quickly and accurately. This position is a unique opportunity to be involved in the digital preservation of historic aviation materials. Applicants should be organized, enjoy working with their hands and on a computer, and have a basic understanding of appropriate practices when dealing with historic paper materials. The ideal candidate prefers to work in a solitary capacity, is self motivated, and finds fulfillment and enjoyment in highly repetitive tasks.

Responsibilities and Authorities:

  • Using a variety of scanning equipment to digitize aircraft manuals, documents, engineering drawings, and more.
  • Using a variety of software programs associated with scanning equipment, along with custom designed software programs owned by AirCorps Aviation.
  • Reviewing and editing digitized files for image quality, and naming files appropriately.
  • Working remotely with AirCorps personnel, and on-site with contracted customers as required by the needs of each project.
  • Reporting to the AirCorps Library Lead with daily and weekly progress reports as required.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Job knowledge through suitable education or prior work experience. Experience in preservation and library sciences preferred, but willing to train the right employee.
  • Excellent computer skills and learns new software programs quickly.
  • Strong communication skills and a willingness to ask questions.
  • Must be able to follow detailed multi-step instructions.
  • Extremely high attention to detail, and appreciation for repetitive tasks.
  • Proactive and innovative problem solver.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, integrity, and fulfillment of commitments.
  • Sustained passion over long term projects.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift and pull objects weighing up to 40 pounds at a time, climb ladders, and work in confined areas with dusty materials.
