SUMMARY:
This part-time summer role provides broad exposure across multiple areas of AirCorps Aviation’s operations, including aircraft restoration, component repair, fabrication, depot parts, and supporting functions such as the Aircorps Library. Summer Shop Assistants will support experienced team members by performing a variety of basic production, maintenance, fabrication, and general shop support tasks. The position is ideal for motivated high school students who want to explore careers in aviation, manufacturing, and precision craftsmanship while contributing to historic aircraft restoration projects. This is a part-time temporary summer position. The role does not report to a single manager on a permanent basis. Instead, the student will work under various supervisors and leads depending on daily shop needs. Emphasis is placed on learning, safety, reliability, teamwork, and a strong work ethic.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Shop Exposure & Support
- Rotate through different shop areas to observe and assist with aviation restoration, repair, and fabrication processes.
- Provide general assistance to technicians, machinists, and fabricators on daily tasks.
Shop Support & General Duties
- Assist with material handling, shop organization, cleaning, and preparation of parts and workspaces.
- Support fabrication, assembly, and restoration activities by helping with basic tasks as directed.
- Help prepare materials, tools, and equipment for shop personnel.
- Perform simple measurement and inspection tasks under close supervision.
Quality, Safety & Shop Standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times.
- Follow all safety rules, use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and report any hazards.
- Learn and adhere to basic quality standards and company procedures.
- Participate in shop housekeeping and basic preventative maintenance activities.
Teamwork & Professional Development
- Work cooperatively with team members across all departments with a positive attitude.
- Follow instructions from various supervisors and leads as assigned.
- Show initiative, reliability, and eagerness to learn new skills.
- Demonstrate professionalism and a strong interest in aviation and craftsmanship.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support shop operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a current high school student (ages 16+) with reliable transportation.
- No prior experience required — strong willingness to learn is essential.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in hands-on work preferred.
- Ability to follow instructions, read simple technical documents, and communicate effectively.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English clearly.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and work in a shop environment.
- Strong attention to detail, dependability, and commitment to safety.
- Passion for aviation, historic aircraft, or manufacturing is highly desirable.
- Must maintain good academic standing and have parental/guardian approval if under 18.
